If you want to see La Sagrada Familia from your room, make sure you book a superior room with a “Landmark View”. I treated myself to one of these rooms, and the view really is incredible!
These superior rooms are a decent size and well-furnished. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms, air-con, a mini bar fridge and wifi. The hotel also has an on-site restaurant serving a buffet breakfast and evening meals, as well as the tapas menu served on the terrace.
Sercotel Rosellón Hotel used to be called the Ayre Hotel Rossellón, but has now been rebranded, and it is a short 4-minute walk from the hotel to the basilica.
Why Book the Sercotel Hotel Rosellón?
If you’re searching for the best hotel near the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Sercotel Hotel Rosellón is a fantastic choice. This modern 4-star hotel not only offers comfort and style, but it also has one of the most spectacular rooftop terraces in the city, with jaw-dropping views of Gaudí’s masterpiece.
I chose to stay here to celebrate my birthday because I wanted to be close to the Sagrada Familia and enjoy that incredible view, and it didn’t disappoint. From the moment I checked in, it felt like a special part of my Barcelona trip.

A Solid Choice for a Barcelona Hotel Near Sagrada Familia
Sercotel Hotel Rosellón Location
The location of the hotel is unbeatable. A short walk from the Sagrada Familia, you can wake up early and beat the crowds for a morning visit, or wander over at night when the basilica is lit up.
The neighbourhood is more residential than the Gothic Quarter or El Born, which means it’s quieter in the evenings but still full of local cafés, restaurants and shops. The diagonal street Avinguda de Gaudí, which leads from La Sagrada Familia up to the Hospital Sant Pau Modernist Complex, is one of my favourite streets in Barcelona, and a lovely spot for eating, shopping or people watching.
With the metro station at Sagrada Familia so close, you can reach Plaça Catalunya and other central attractions in under fifteen minutes, making it one of the best places to stay in Barcelona for first-time visitors.

Check In Process
Check-in was a little chaotic as I arrived at the same time as a large group. It was in the morning, and no rooms were ready yet, so the receptionist took our bags for storage. They were kind and attentive, but the bags were sitting next to the reception for a while instead of in a storage room, so it didn’t feel very secure. When I came back later that night to collect the bags, everything was fine, though, so no problem in the end.

My Bedroom at the Sercotel Hotel Rossellón
My room was a reasonable size, although the standard rooms are more compact, which is typical for a central Barcelona hotel. The room was spotless, modern and well designed. The bed was comfortable, with crisp white sheets, and the bathroom had a great shower.
There was a small safe in the closet, a mini bar and complimentary water in a cardboard carton, not plastic. There was certainly an effort to be eco-friendly; the shampoo and shower gel were in large bottles in the shower, so no single-use plastics there either, and even the paper packaging for the biodegradable shower cap was recycled paper and printed with soy ink!

The air-conditioning was managed centrally, which may be good or bad for the environment depending on how generous they are with the settings, but as it was October when I stayed, I didn’t need it.
The Wi-Fi was decent enough for work and streaming, and the desk in the room made it easy to catch up on a bit of work.
The real highlight, though, was the view. I had booked a Sagrada Familia view room, and honestly, pulling back the curtains in the morning to see Gaudí’s towers right outside was magical. If you’re wondering where to stay in Barcelona with the best views of La Sagrada Familia, booking a Sagrada-facing room here is definitely worth it!

Sercotel Rosellón Rooftop Bar
Even if you don’t book a bedroom with a view, you won’t miss out as The Sercotel Hotel Rosellón has one of the best views of the Sagrada Família, and the rooftop bar is a perfect place to enjoy a drink with this iconic backdrop. It was very pleasant sipping on a glass of cava with an uninterrupted view of the Sagrada Familia and panoramic views across the city to the sea.
If you’re a guest at the hotel, then there is free access to the rooftop, and you don’t need a booking, but it’s best to check with reception in case that has changed. Occasionally, the terrace is closed for a private event, so again it’s best check with the reception to see when you can access the rooftop.
Non-guests will have to make a reservation, which is not easy to get! The reservation system for the terrace allows bookings up to 14 days in advance, and is often fully booked. Check availability here. The website says there is a reservation fee of €7 per person, and once you’re at the bar you need to buy something – a drink or food.

The food itself is ok, but expensive for what it is, and you can find plenty of other restaurants near La Sagrada Familia with better quality food. However, the view really is hard to beat, so I’d recommend just having a drink or two up there to soak up the views.
Apparently, the hotel used to have a swimming pool up on the roof but that is no longer there, and unfortunately, access to the terrace is not suitable for wheelchair users – the hotel suggests contacting them directly for information if you have reduced mobility to see what the possibilities are.
BOOK YOUR STAY

Breakfast & Other Facilities
Breakfast at the hotel is generous, with a buffet that includes fresh fruit, pastries, cheeses, cold cuts, hot dishes, juice and coffee. I didn’t book breakfast, but I popped into the dining room to take a peek and it looked good, and it gets good reviews. The breakfast buffet is served from 7.30am to 10.30 am, and you can request an early take-away breakfast from 5am to 7.30am if you have to leave before it starts.

I chose to have breakfast elsewhere; there are a couple of brunch cafes on the same street, and a Syra coffee on the corner, as well as some great restaurants near La Sagrada Familia and a couple of local bakeries nearby. Try Forn +Calida:d if you just want something simple with a coffee.
There is also a downstairs bar and seating area, although it was empty when I was there – I suppose it the rooftop terrace is full, there may be people here instead.
The hotel also offers practical facilities like 24-hour reception, luggage storage, laundry services and a small business area. There is no swimming pool or fitness area, although the hotel has an arrangement with a nearby gym.

Final Thoughts – Is the Sercotel Rosellon a Good Hotel?
Of course, no hotel is perfect. Some of the standard rooms are compact, and the rooftop terrace can get busy in the evening when everyone heads up for the sunset views. Rooms with a direct Sagrada Familia view are obviously more expensive, but if it’s within your budget, I’d say it’s absolutely worth it for the experience of waking up to those views!
I enjoyed my stay here and would recommend it – especially if you book a room with a view of the Sagrada Familia! While it perhaps isn’t one of the best hotels in Barcelona according to the review ratings, those views really do make up for any shortcomings.
