Travel Websites to Book Your Trip to Barcelona
If you’re ready to book your trip, I use these travel websites to book everything from flights to hotels, car hire, tours, tickets, insurance and more.
I’ve chosen these sites after years of travelling around the world – these are the travel resources I rely on for every trip so I hope you find them useful for your trip to Barcelona!
Getting There
- Use Skyscanner to find cheap flights to Barcelona.
- Public transport is the cheapest way to get to your accommodation from the airport, but a shared shuttle transfer is quicker and cheaper than a taxi – you can pre-book those on GetYourGuide or Viator
- Alternatively, check out the Aerobus for express buses to Barcelona from the airport, or take a look at the options for public transport.
- Try Omio to book trains from other destinations in Spain and Europe, and Busbud to book long-distance buses like Flixbus.
Where to Stay
- For hotels, I use Booking.com to check reviews and find the best deals on hotels and apartments in Barcelona. Hotels.com is another good site.
- If you’re on a tight budget, use Hostelworld to find the best hostels in Barcelona and all over the world
- For digital nomads & long-term stays check out Flatio for monthly rentals
Home Exchange
- Register with Kindred home exchange and you can have up to 5 free nights to spend somewhere around the world before you host anyone in your home.
Housesitting
- For travellers, house-sitting is a great way to save money on accommodation and spend time caring for someone else’s home and pets while they’re away
- If you’re going away and worried about leaving your house and pets, then you can arrange a housesitter to care for them while you enjoy your trip.
- TrustedHousesitters is the most reputable house-sitting platform, so take a look and find your perfect housesit in Barcelona! I recommend the Standard or Premium membership options as they include lots of useful extras and don’t cost much more than the basic option.
Top Money-Saving Tip for Backpackers
- Work exchanges are a great way to travel for longer and extend your trip as you can save a ton of money on accommodation. Get an extra $10 discount on Worldpackers plus extra bonuses here or learn more about working in hostels in Barcelona here.

Hire a Car
- Get a quote for car hire with Discover Cars who compare car rental deals from hundreds of local companies so that you can choose which is best for your trip.
Book Tours and Activities
- I use GetYourGuide or Viator to book everything from skip-the-line entry tickets to food tours as I can compare options from several companies and choose the best one for me
- If you’re staying in a hostel, check out their tours and activities which are usually free or very cheap – and a great way to meet people!
Travel Insurance
- Unfortunately, things can and do go wrong when you travel. I always buy travel insurance for my trips and was very glad I had insurance when I had my laptop and passport stolen in Ecuador! Unfortunately, pickpockets can be a problem in Barcelona so make sure you are prepared!
- I have used SafetyWing insurance which is available for purchase online in 180 countries and you can also buy it while you are already travelling. SafetyWing travel medical insurance has options for set trips with specific dates, or you can subscribe on a month-by-month basis either for standard travel insurance or full health coverage while you are travelling.
- I have also used World Nomads for some of my trips abroad, they offer travel insurance for independent travellers and intrepid families, and offer cover for more than 150 adventure sports and activities as well as emergency medical, lost luggage, trip cancellation and more. You can get a quote, make a claim, or buy or extend your policy while on the road for ultimate flexibility.
As an affiliate, I receive a fee when you get a quote from World Nomads using the link above. I do not represent World Nomads. This is information only and not a recommendation to buy travel insurance.
- Alternatively, use a comparison site like Travel Insurance Master to find the best cover for you.
Check Your Travel Documents
- Don’t forget to check the validity of your passport and any other documents for your trip. Check if you need a visa to visit Spain, and get up to date official travel advice from your government, for example on the Department of State website in the US or the UK government website.
Get Cheap Currency
- When travelling abroad, using a travel bank account like Wise means you get great deals on foreign currency, and can avoid the usual high bank fees for using your card abroad.
